Kenton Treat, who owns land farther up 201 North is an avid shooter and has been a reserve deputy for the past 23 years.Seeing a need, he donated a portion of his land for the range and built berms to form two shooting bays.
Baxter County contributed with gravel work, and Mountain Home provided concrete for the project.
The result is a shooting range where not only MHPD and Baxter County Sheriff's Department officers do their qualifying, but other departments can use it by arrangement as well.Last week, officers from the Flippin Police Department were shooting.
"We appreciate Mr. Treat letting us come out," said Flippin Chief Jim Scott.

Treat said the county, city, state and the Game and Fish Commission pay a $1 per year lease to use the property. The fee is a legal formality to cover liability, he explained.
The facility has been in use for the past several months, but it is a work in progress. The concrete pad at the 50-yard mark is designed to have a cover over it.
And the Arkansas State Police is donating 1,000 railroad ties that will be used to build a shoot house to go in one of the bays.Treat explained the 40x60 house will include pop-up targets officers will use for training.
