John Treat: Senior Advisor and Acting Manager to the Secretary GeneralPrior to joining CIVICUS, John served as Programme Officer on a major association-building project in one of the most ethnically divided areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was implemented through a sophisticated network of formal partnerships with community volunteers, local government offices and commercial businesses.Previously, he served as both Director of Programme Development and Director of Monetization with the United Methodist Committee on Relief in Bosnia.He has substantial experience in the design and development of organisational systems, policies, and planning and management tools, as well as extensive experience in developing, writing and editing funding proposals, management and planning reports and promotional and educational materials.John honed his research skills during graduate study in Vanderbilt University's Ph.D.programme in philosophy, where he also received the departmental award for excellence in teaching.He holds a BA in both philosophy and chemistry from William Jewell College.
