    Ms. Tobin is currently the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the jazz studies department at Portland State University where she is completing Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance.She is an active professional jazz musician with years of experience both performing and recording.She has played with a wide variety of bands and musicians including: Glen Moore Ensemble, Darrell Grant, Flatland, The Temptations, Esperanza Spalding, Tim DuRoche, Israel Annoh, Thara Memory, Jonas Tauber, David Valdez Andre St. James, Carlton Jackson Big Band, DK Stewart, and hundreds of others.She has toured with and opened for legends like Herbie Hancock, James Moody, Billy Mintz, Wayne Horvitz, Third World, Steel Pulse and many others.Ms. Tobin has performed at the Portland Jazz Festival, the Vancouver Jazz Festival and the International Bnff Jazz Festival.She currently leads two of her own groups; the Ms Tobin Quintet and Paxselin Quartet.Both groups have appeared on KMHD and perform regularly at jazz venues.Paxselin Quartet recently returned from a Midwest tour (including stops in Chicago, IL and Madison, WI) in support of their debut CD.Ms. Tobin also performs regularly with a variety of groups as a side person.She has studied saxophone and jazz with some of Portland's finest including Warren Rand, Rob Davis, Alan Jones, Glen Moore, Scott Hall and Rob Scheps.Ms. Tobin holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Portland Statue University where she was a Laurel Scholarship recipient.She is a 2004 Banff alumnus and has also attended Berklee College of Music and the Univeristy of Oregon . She has appeared in the movie "Hear No Evil" with the band Dub Squad and can be heard on numerous local releases (including Chris Newman's upcoming release for Flying Heart Records) over the past ten years.She recently helped research and writes excerpts for Darrell Grant's upcoming book, "New Real Standards" and does free lance work for The Leroy Vinegar Jazz Institute.She lives in SE Portland, OR where she plays music all the time.

    Ms. Tobin is a Portland based saxophonist/composer and educator. She is a regular performer in the NW area and has played professionally with musicians and groups of all genres, both local and national, including; The Temptations, Glen Moore's Oregon Ensemble, Tom Sandahl's Fat Tuesday Band, E.S.I., Darrell Grant, Thara Memory, Flatland, Jonas Tauber, Reuben Radding, James Jazz Orchestra, Carlton/Jackson Big Band, George Reinmiller Big Band, the Old Cats, the Inquisition Ensemble, Rich Halley, the Matt Wayne Band, Dub Squad, Esperanza Spaulding, Andre St. James, Surf Jazz, Echo Jazz Collective, Border Patrol, Caliente, the Instigators, Johnny Legend, Chris Newman, the Oblivion Seekers and many others. Ms. Tobin is currently a member of the Portland Jazz Orchestra, the Andrew Oliver Sextet, Swamp Cactus, the Kansas City Rhythm Kings and the 29th Street Cartel (a modern saxophone quartet). In addition, she leads two of her own ensembles: Paxselin Quartet and the MS Tobin Quintet and has appeared on numerous local releases for a variety of groups.

    MST, as she is known to colleagues and friends, received her Masters of Music in Saxophone Performance from Portland State University in 2005, where she served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Jazz Studies Department from 2003-2005. MST also holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Portland State where she was a Laurel Scholarship recipient.
