Terry Timmerman
Terry's first experiences with the Knights of Columbus occurred years ago when he was a student at Premontre (presently Notre Dame) High School. He got involved in a circle of Columbian Squires which was sponsored by a local Council of the Knights. He doesn't remember a great deal about his involvement in the Squires aside from taking part in some community activities and sporting events and some "other fun things," but he does remember that Aaron Naze was somehow involved as a leader on behalf of the sponsoring Council. For that reason, when a new Council was being formed with St. Bernard Parish as its home in 1990, Terry accepted Aaron's invitation to become involved, and so Terry became a Charter Member of the new Council 10243.He was also the first Inside Guard of the new Council and he served as an Officer through June of 1992.In the time that he has been a part of Council 10243 he has taken part in several of the food stand fund raisers and other activities that have taken place.Among his most vivid memories of his time with the Knights is the Pancake/Porkie breakfast sponsored by the Council a few years back as a fund raiser. He remembers the day as being wild and hectic because of all the work that needed to be done.Something about the wildness of the experience appealed to him.Though his work schedule makes it difficult to attend meetings, he does appreciate the chance to contribute to the life of the Council through some of its activities. He is currently working with Rick Noe on the Spouse Appreciation Dinner scheduled for February.
Terry is a member of the Green Bay Fire Department and has been serving the community in that capacity for twenty three years now.He presently holds the rank of Captain and is also Director of Emergency Medical Services. His job has given him the opportunity to ride in more ambulances than he cares to remember, and an average day might involve trips to hospitals and fire stations in addition to teaching responsibilities as well as getting work done in his office. He teaches classes in the EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) program through Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and is often tied up with work related matters several nights a week.He is also a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Before getting involved with the Fire Department he served in the military for three years during the Vietnam conflict and worked for a time at Proctor & Gamble.
Terry and his wife, Kathy, have been married for twenty six years now. They have a son in Denver and a daughter at home, and Kathy is employed by American Medical Securities in Howard. They built a home in the area of St. Bernard Parish in the early 1970's and have been a part of the parish ever since.Terry has formerly served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister, as a member of P.A.C.E. and as a member of the Board of Education. In the time he finds for relaxation he likes to read and has recently been getting into woodworking. He especially appreciates the sense of camaraderie which he experiences among the Knights, a kind of spirit he hasn't discovered in other similar organizations. He says it is hard to describe the experience: "You've got to be there to appreciate it."We are certainly happy that Terry was there for the Council in its infancy and that he continues to bring so much to the life of the Council.
