Bishop Nestor Timanywa, diocese of Bukoba, will preside over the profession ceremony along with Sister Joan Winkler, OSF, Provincial Superior of the Hospital Sisters.
Sister Stefanie, a 31-year-old German woman, co-founded the San Damiano Mission six years ago and since that time has made significant advances in the assistance provided to the people of Kemondo.She has used her organizational and technical skills in bringing water from a spring to the village and the Sisters' Mission facilities.She has designed several buildings and supervised the construction including the Sisters' residence and her office while also assisting with the renovation of the Church, Seminary facility, and Physical Therapy building.In addition, she has designed the Sisters' Mission facility's furniture that is then built at a local carpentry workshop.
Sister Stefanie has been a Lay Associate of the American Province of the Hospital Sisters since July 1999.She co-founded the San Damiano Mission and has served as a missionary with the multicultural community of the Hospital Sisters in Tanzania.She entered the Congregation on October 21, 2001 and was received into the Novitiate on July 3, 2003.She has participated in the Common Franciscan Novitiate in Joliet, IL and upon completion returned to Tanzania in late 2004.
In her ministry, she is providing social services including assistance with schooling for children, housing, food, and clothing, to the people of Kemondo and the surrounding areas.A majority of these items have been provided from the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach program, Springfield.She speaks German, English, Swahili, and Haya.She teaches English to children and adults at the San Damiano Mission along with providing play therapy to handicapped children.
