A regional director for YouthWorks, Kristy Tillman, checked out the church during a visit earlier this summer and found it to be the only one in the city to have built-in accommodations: dormitories with showers.The boys are in the basement, and the girls have the first and third floors.

Giving the run of the 92-year-old landmark church to the teenagers has boosted the morale and role of the congregation, said the pastor, the Rev. Peter Del Rio.

"We wanted to be part of their missionary work," he said."These young people have added to our own mission to reinvigorate the community.
