NYSAFC Director John M. Tighe
Chief John Tighe started his career as a firefighter in his hometown of Horseheads serving as a volunteer. In 1974 he was appointed as a career firefighter with the City of Corning Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to the position of lieutenant. In February of 2000 he was appointed to the position of chief of the City of Norwich Fire Department overseeing the combination department of 16 career and 120 volunteer staff. As chief he has been an innovator in managing and training a combination department and recently oversaw the construction and renovation of a new fire headquarters. He retired from active duty in July of 2006. Chief Tighe joined NYSAFC in 1975 and has served on the Paid Chiefs, Conference, and Government Affairs Committees prior to joining the Board of Directors in 2005. -
