  Jim Tighe, president of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, says it was important to get the arena completed for the curling championships, which promise to bring significant economic spinoffs and visibility to Victoria.

  "We need downtown to expand its borders a little, and with the arena at the north end of downtown hopefully some things will fill in as far as attractions and activities for people," says Tighe.
