Jim Tighe, president of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, says it was important to get the arena completed for the curling championships, which promise to bring significant economic spinoffs and visibility to Victoria.

"I think it's great, the frustration of trying to build a multi-municipal facility in this town is legendary," says Tighe."It's great to see this one come together."

"We need downtown to expand its borders a little, and with the arena at the north end of downtown hopefully some things will fill in as far as attractions and activities for people," says Tighe.
    ...
"Labour costs have gone up, material prices have increased substantially and if it were a public facility the taxpayer would be on the hook for that," says Tighe.
