   The school board also named Lisa Tierney, a former assistant principal at Wimauma Elementary, as principal at Cypress Creek Elementary in Ruskin and Mary Knox, who was principal at Wilson Elementary in Plant City, as principal at Valrico Elementary.

   "We both have similar populations," Tierney said. "We're both Title I schools, and we both have heavy populations of Hispanic and migrant students. I just really understand the need of the population."
   
   Cypress Creek's community, faculty and staff have a "great reputation," Tierney said. "It was an opportunity I just couldn't miss."
   
   The Tierneys live in Valrico and have a 3-year-old son. Lisa Tierney replaces Jeff Eakins, now principal on special assignment for federal programs.
