Thompson to attend Governor's School

Tyler Thompson, a junior at James F. Byrnes High School, was selected to attend the Governor's School of the Arts and Humanities in Greenville for the 2008-09 school year.

In addition, Thompson is a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, German National Honor Society, Technology Student Association (where he recently won first place in three events at the state competition), Model United Nations and Junior Leadership Spartanburg.

Thompson is the son of Julie Thompson-Adolf and Peter Adolf.

Tyler Thompson, senior at Emporia High School, was named the Emporia Lions Club Student of the Month.Thompson, the son of Kenneth and Debra Thompson, has a 3.98 grade point average and has been accepted in the honors engineering program at the University of Kansas, where he will study chemical engineering with a pre-medical emphasis.

He is a member of the EHS National Honor Society chapter and was treasurer in the 2006-07 term of office.He has achieved exemplary ratings on the Kansas State assessment tests in mathematics, science and reading.At EHS, he has been active in theater, forensics and vocal music.He was a national qualifier in forensics, finished first place in the state forensics meet and received ratings of I on vocal solos in the state music contest.

Tyler has one younger brother, Trevor, who is 14.They are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Tulia.

Tyler graduated from Tulia High School in 2005 as Salutatorian.During high school, Tyler was involved in many activities.He served as President of National Honor Society his senior year and was also junior and senior class Presidents.He was a state qualifier in cross-examination debate and lettered in football and track three years.He was chosen as a Coca-Cola National Scholar and voted Mr. T.H.S. at graduation.

In addition to other activities, Tyler was also an active 4-H member.He attended National 4-H Congress, was on the 2005 National Consumer Decision Making Championship Team, and held many offices in his local club and County Council.He participated in many livestock shows and contests in swine, goats, livestock judging, public speaking, energy management, and consumer education.

Tyler now attends Texas Tech University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.He also fids time to serve on mission ministries and as a youth camp counselor.His future plans are to pursue his Master's at Texas Tech, then seek a career in the engineering field.
