Nathan Thompson has been working with light since 1975.Since then he has worked in many aspects of the lighting industry including corporate and theatrical performance, manufacturing, specialist contracting, education and design consulting.

This variety of work has seen projects successfully completed in Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean, Australasia, the Middle East, and much of East and South East Asia.

Nathan has taught architects and industrial designers at the University of Melbourne, the University of South Australia and RMIT University.He has taught at the HfG School of design in Germany, and at UCLA in Los Angeles.He has presented specialist lectures to various design groups in Australia, Germany and Taiwan.

Over the course of more than fifteen years, Nathan Thompson and The Flaming Beacon have completed many projects in Asia, Africa, Australasia, North and Central America, South America and Europe, having collaborated with designers and architects such as Kerry Hill Architects, Denniston Architects and Planners, Layan Design Group, Northpoint Architects, Jaya Ibrahim, Carr Design Group, Swaney Draper Architects, Bates Smart Architects, BNN and many others.

The Flaming Beacon's commitment to the arts has led to performance projects with diverse groups including Chamber Made Opera, The Australian Ballet, the Institute for Complex Entertainment (Nathan is a founding member), the West Australian Ballet, Stelarc, Melbourne Opera, The Ennio Morricone Experience, Playbox Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company, Melbourne Festival and others and has crossed the spectrum of artistic endeavour from traditional performance forms to in-body sculpture and avant-garde visual installation work.
