He was also the chair of the 1996 Softball Canada Fastball Championships and has a long ago connection to the Rangers organization, having been their first business manager, on a part-time basis from 1976 to 1983.

    ...
Thompson is excited about the possibilities that this will have.
    ...
Thompson says this will be family oriented.

"We have a bit of a challenge, in that there are as many fans or more as there are seats in our building.Vancouver had a bigger property to deal with, so they had better availability of tickets. We're trying to think of how can we include people in the events associated with the Memorial Cup, if they can't get into the arena to watch the game live.

"So that if you're unable to purchase a ticket in the bowl or choose not to purchase in the bowl for whatever reason, they'll have the opportunity to bring your family and enjoy the Memorial Cup with other people in a lively hockey fan environment, who are going to watch it on large screens," said Thompson.

Off the ice things are progressing well toward the event.
