Roland's experience as an Agricultural Surveyor began in Leeds where he undertook a range of agricultural and rural planning matters.He also has experience of residential surveys and valuations and now specialises in property consultancy.

He has also appeared as an expert witness at public planning inquiries.

Roland Thomas, chartered surveyor and planning consultant from our head office carried out an assessment of the property and proposed an application for a residential dwelling.

Ten years after qualifying as a chartered surveyor Roland Thomas weighed up his prospects in the UK's largest surveying practice.

He says : Although I was an associate partner I didn't consider the future was very bright.Most people in the practice got promoted because of their qualifications , not how well they managed people.I realised that I needed to go back to school to update my skills..

He knew that there was considerable risk involved in taking time out to do an MBA.I would be over-qualified for the same job after gaining an MBA , yet it would be difficult to get into industry as my whole working experience had been in a professional practice..

Now strategic marketing analyst at DHL , the delivery company , Mr Thomas has no doubts about his move to the commercial world.

As well as side-stepping the typecasting predicament , students will often move from a specialist role in a large organisation to a smaller company in a general management capacity.
