Muriel Thiessen TROY - Muriel S. Thiessen, 88, of Troy and a former Rhinebeck resident, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Home in Troy.Before residing in Troy she was a resident of New York City, Claverack, and the Woods in Rhinebeck.She was an officer in the Women's National Republican Club and was the first woman elected to the Claverack Town Council.A noted hostess for a wide circle of friends and an avid bridge player, she was a member of the D.A.R. and was active in other local historical organizations until her illness curtailed her activities.Muriel was a member of Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck and was a volunteer for the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Thiessen was an alumna of Mount Holyoke College and served on various alumnae association committees.Muriel married Milton Thiessen on Sept. 25, 1947.
