  As lead singer Matt Thiessen lets lyrics such as " We should get jerseys / Cause we make a good team / But yours would look better than mine / Cause you're out of my league" slip, the listener will either have a new away message or change the track before the overly sweet chorus kicks in. Another eye-roller comes in the form of "Crayons Can Melt on Us for All I Care," a 12-second track that merely proclaims "I just wasted ten seconds of your time."

  "We're kind of like Laffy Taffy," says Relient K lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Thiessen when asked to describe the as-yet untitled album, due out this coming November. "It's the same flavor but we try to stretch it a little bit. It's still melodic, it's still rock 'n' roll, still a lot of dynamics - there're times when it's heavy, there're times when it's real chilled with piano and what-not. But at the same time, we're trying to write a bit differently, lyrically."
  
  There are numerous other differences between the upcoming album and Relient K's four previous records. "We wanted to work with Howard," explains Thiessen, "Howard's done a lot of records that I listen to.

  Singer Matt Thiessen retreated to a remote house in Tennessee for several months to write the material. All the while he stayed in touch with the band-guitarists Matt Hoopes and Jon Schneck, drummer Ethan Luck and bassist John Warne-sharing song ideas and discussing the direction for the album.
