Siverson studied with National Geographic photographer Mark Thiessen and her work has twice been featured on the magazine's Web site.

Although she became visually disabled due to a retinal abnormality and several complications following a cornea transplant in 2004, she says that her photo work has been transformed as a result.

"It gave me a new way of seeing - the camera enables me to see," she said.

She's been creating photographic art for more than 20 years. Bringing her work home is rewarding.

"It's nice to have work in my home town, an ongoing place to show work rather than one show at a time," she said of The Artist Playhouse.

Photographer Mark Thiessen provides a unique perspective on fighting wildfires, because he's been to fire school and gets recertified every year. This gives him special access at a firefighting site that ordinary news photographers can't get.

In this short video, Thiessen talks about the 2007 fire season in California, and what it was like to be in the thick of it, when he was shooting a story on wildfires for National Geographic. He also explains how well-intentioned but wrongheaded fire prevention policy has made today's wildfires hotter and more dangerous than ever.
