Dr. Kenzou Tenma

Sometimes the narrative seems odd: you question why they suddenly jump to another character who isn't related, and sometimes two or three episodes will pass without Dr. Tenma getting so much as a cameo; and yet, the characters are developed so strongly, and then tied into the plot so tightly, that when it's all over you realize how amazing it was after all.

Dr. Kenzou Tenma is the genius chief neurosurgeon at Eisler Memorial.He has just finished a 6-hour operation on a famous opera singer (Mr. Rosenbach).On his way out, he sees a woman, crying, with her little boy.

Back at Dr. Tenma's place, he is woken up by his fiancee, Eva Heinemann, the daughter of the hospital director at Eisler.The TV is on and they see Dr. Heinemann, Eva's father, on the news, taking credit for Dr. Tenma's successful operation.

Back at the hospital, Dr. Tenma successfully completes another operation.Dr. Becker stops to chat and hints at how the director is using Dr. Tenma and how the hospital is a big political arena.

Dr. Tenma is stopped by the same crying woman earlier.She accuses him that he was responsible for the death of her husband, a Turkish man involved in a construction accident he was supposed to operate on the previous day.The Turkish man arrived at the hospital earlier than Mr. Rosenbach but the Director reassigned Dr. Tenma to work on the opera singer's case.

Dr. Tenma and Eva are eating dinner at a posh restaurant.

Dr. Tenma is called to the hospital.While driving, he recalls how the Director cancelled Dr. Tenma's research so he could work on the director's manuscripts for a symposium.Lost in his thoughts, Dr. Tenma almost gets hit by a truck.

Back at the hospital, Dr. Tenma sees the twin girl and he was told that she is in a state of mental shock.Dr. Tenma and his team decide that the operation on the little boy will be difficult since the bullet grazed the brain.

As Dr. Tenma is about to begin operation, he is told that he's reassigned to operate on the Mayor instead.According to the Director, the Mayor has promised to increase subsidy to the hospital, hence, Dr. Tenma must save him at all costs.Dr. Tenma insists that he's the only one who can operate on the little boy and tells them to ask Dr. Boyer to operate on the Mayor instead.

Dr. Tenma operates on the little boy against the Director's wishes.The little girl is in her hospital bed and keeps on saying "kill him" over and over again.
