Phil Temples has been somewhat overindulgent in the hobby of Amateur Radio,also known as ham radio.He started at the tender age of fourteen; he's been at it now for over 35 years.
"Amateur Radio was my entire life when I was growing up," reflects Phil.

Phil is a member of the Boston Amateur Radio Club, having served as a two-term president and a two-term vice-president.The Boston ARC meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Newton Police Department in West Newton, MA.
"The 90's were exciting times for BARC," recalls Phil.

Phil currently hosts the club's worldwide web site, barc.org on his server.
Boston ARCHarvard Wireless Club
In the recent past, Phil was a member of the Harvard Wireless Club, W1AF.The HWC was established in 1909 and is quite probably the oldest amateur radio club in existence.
"Being involved with HWC was fabulous," says Phil.

Phil invested time and effort in creating a web site for the club.The original "look and feel" is still present today.

Phil Temples is a life member of the American Radio Relay League, the national association of radio amateurs.In 2002 he was elected to his third term of office as Section Manager for the Eastern Massachusetts section.At present, Phil is the section's Affiliated Club Coordinator and he is also an Assistant Director in the New England Division.

Phil works with an outfit based in Golden Valley, Minnesota called the Courage Center Handi-HAM System.Handi-Ham provides ham radio training and support for individuals with disabilities.Phil volunteers as an instructor at two of their camps each year.It's a very rewarding and humbling experience, which is probably why Phil continues to come back each year.

A few years ago, Phil joined a distinguished organization of "over the hill" amateur radio operators known as the Quarter Century Wireless Association.

His buddies know him as Phil, but the Federal Communications Commission knows him as K9HI. ("HI" in telegraphy, or "didididit didit," means laughter.And Phil would much rather be caught gripping a telegraph key than a microphone.)
