    Hamilton Temple and his wife came to California from St. Louis in 1897 on their honeymoon and fell in love with the state, returning a few years later to make it their home.

    Hamilton Temple was famous for being the first person in Covina to own a car and there is a terrific photograph of him in the "St.Louis" at the Covina FireHouse/Jail Museum.

    Repairing cars in those days was difficult since the nearest mechanics were in Los Angeles so Hamilton and his friends formed the Covina Garage and Machine Shop Association.

    Hamilton paid to have the San Gabriel Valley Light and Power Company run electricity from Barranca and Badillo Street to his property so an electric pump could bring the water up from the well.

    Hamilton was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Missouri and wanted to transfer his membership to Covina.He was more than 50 years of age by then and the members felt reluctant to take a man of his age as a member.

    He outlived all but two of those members.
