The Overthrow Finneran initiative is gathering steam in the 14th Middlesex district and elsewhere, according to Town Clerk Anita Tekle. She said she spoke to the Elections Division of the Secretary of State's office.
"It will apparently appear on the ballot in at least eighteen districts," Tekle noted.
The ballot initiative is sponsored by Citizens for Participation in Political Action (CPPAX).The effort is part of a larger campaign dubbed the "Campaign for Democracy in the State House," according to CPPAX.
The movement has a Web site:

Tekle said 233 signatures were certified last week.
"All together, there were two hundred fifty-one signatures in the Fourteenth Middlesex district," said Tekle, "so that means Concord, with two hundred thirty-three, had the bulk of them."
The question is one sentence: "Shall the representative from this district be instructed not to vote for Thomas M. Finneran of Boston for speaker of the House of Representatives?"
