General Teilmann's most recent military assignments included service as a brigadier general on the staff of the Adjutant General of South Carolina, where he served as Military Media Directorate for the Support Command of the South Carolina National Guard, and prior to that as Commander of the 40th Infantry Division (Mech) Support Brigade, the senior field command in State service for the Military Department of the State of California.This followed more than twenty-five years of active and reserve federal service in the Armed Forces of the United States.
Born in San Francisco, California, General Teilmann received his initial formal education in the Parochial School Systems of San Francisco and Marin Counties.He attended college at the University of California, Berkeley and in the United Kingdom, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Rochdale College.He was awarded a Ph.D in Information Technology and Management from the International Academy for Integration of Science and Business in Moscow in May of 2001 and also holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Peninsula Institute of Information, Technology and Business.In the Fall of 2001, he was elected an Advisor of the International Academy of Sciences, Education, Industry and Arts.
General Teilmann's experience in the Armed Forces includes duty in a variety of command as well as staff positions from Army National Guard Detachments through Numbered Army Headquarters level, to Department of Defense and Joint Service Activities.He served as a Public Affairs special projects officer, and later in Psychological Warfare for the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV).He also served two assignments in Europe on active duty with NATO for the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon.
Originally commissioned in the Infantry, later serving in the Adjutant General and Civil Affairs Corps, General Teilmann's military career has included service in the United States Army, the California Army National Guard, the U.S. Army Reserve and the California State Military Reserve.He served as an Army National Guard Public Affairs Detachment Commander and Chief of Public Affairs for the California Army and Air National Guard; Chief of Media Relations, Chief, Field Liaison Branch and also as Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Staff Officer for the Sixth United States Army; Public Affairs Officer, then Executive Officer for HQ.4th Battalion (Provisional) 6396th RTU, USAR; Community Relations Officer, 6325th IMA Detachment (PA), USAR, Office of the Secretary of the Army; Executive Officer and Commander for the Joint Service Staff Group RTU, USAR; Commander, 40 ID (M) Support Brigade and Commanding General of the 9th Brigade, USAVR.His present assignment is as Commanding General, Headquarters, American Volunteer Reserve.
General Teilmann's military awards and decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, The Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, The Army Achievement Medal (with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), four awards of the California National Guard Medal of Merit, three awards of the California Commendation Medal, the California Meritorious Achievement Medal and various service medals from the Active Army, the National Guard and the Army Reserve.He also wears the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge for ESGR duty at the Pentagon, and the Master Public Affairs Badge awarded by the U.S. Air Force for his command duty with the Joint Service Staff Group.He has also been awarded the Army National Guard Recruiter's Badge and the Army Expert Marksmanship Badge.He received the Legion of Merit from the USAVR in January 2002.
An award-winning television producer and writer in his civilian endeavors, General Teilmann is president of Hollywood International Productions, Ltd., Hollywood, California.
