Each of these types of editing can be defined as follows (definitions are based on the materials filed with the Tribunal by the EAC, as well as the evidence given by Rick Archbold, a freelance editor and writer and Rosemary Tanner, Past President of the EAC and a freelance editor):

Rosemary Tanner, chair of the Certification Steering Committee, will explain certification in general, with an emphasis on the copy editing test. Questions will be welcome.

Rosemary Tanner is a freelance science textbook editor who also enjoys volunteering for EAC. While sitting on the national executive, she made friends across the country. Now, as chair of the Certification Steering Committee, she welcomes new challenges and gathers new friends. She is grateful to EAC for this opportunity.

Developmental editor Rosemary Tanner works on science and math textbooks, at both the el-hi and college levels. Her challenge is to have these subjects make sense to all students.

Rosemary Tanner: With a B.Sc. in Life Sciences, an M.Sc. in Entomology, and a life-long interest in the English language, editor Rosemary is well suited for the task of editing the STAR program.She also brings a rural angle to the activities because her home is surrounded by farms.Her editing credits include many textbooks from science and mathematics to careers and economics.She is currently the Past President of the Editors' Association of Canada.

A lively panel discussion is organized with special guests Rosemary Tanner, an Ontario science book editor and past president of EAC; Jill Wright, office of the mayor of Edmonton; and Linda Goyette, writer in residence, Stanley Milner Library Reception to follow.
