Andrew Tanner, a CAS senior and president of NYUnited - an organization he founded during the tsunami crisis in January - is working on a theme week in early March. He plans to collaborate with other on-campus organizations to organize events including a brain bowl, comedy night and a concert. All proceeds will go to the hurricane victims along the Gulf Coast.

Tanner felt that a series of events would get students, who are often focused on school work and career plans, more involved.

"It's really hard to motivate NYU students because everyone is so busy and self-centered," he said.

While they had hoped for a sellout, NYUnited co-founder Andrew Tanner said the crowd was "amazing," considering last night's snowstorm.

"There was a blizzard of 10 inches of snow, and there was still 500 people here," said Tanner, a CAS junior."That just shows the energy these people have."

Tanner and co-founder Adam Finelli said they wouldn't know for a few days how much money NYUnited had raised, but Finelli estimated that the group's weekend events had brought in $3,000 to $4,000.
    ...
While the total raised is not likely to approach the $100,000 set as a goal, Tanner and Finelli were in high spirits last night.
    ...
"I can't wait until next year," Tanner said, alluding to his goal of making NYUnited an annual theme week of school spirit events at NYU.

Tanner and Finelli said they are still accepting donations for the tsunami relief effort, and all money will be contributed to the Save The Children foundation.
