Dr. Toshimitsu Tanaka Named President and CEO
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - March 14, 2001 - Dialpad Communications, Inc., the market leader in IP telephony solutions, today announced the opening of Dialpad Japan, Inc., an independently-operated entity located in Tokyo.Toshimitsu Tanaka, Ph.D., was named president and chief executive officer, overseeing all aspects of the regional operation. He will report directly to Dialpad Japan's board of directors.Dialpad Japan is the first of several regional operations in Asia and Europe that Dialpad plans to open as it pursues international expansion.
"With more than 35 years of international business experience, Dr. Tanaka has the proven skills and experience to build a world-class operation in Japan that caters to the needs and wants of Dialpad customers in that region," said Hyunduk 'Doug' Ahn, Dialpad's president and co-founder."Dialpad is taking a unique approach to our international expansion plans.Rather than extending our current infrastructure to reach a global market, we plan to establish country-specific operations in key regions worldwide, beginning with this new entity in Japan.By doing so, our U.S.-based team will remain focused on technology innovation, while customers around the world receive the best service, support and selection of technology solutions possible."
Prior to joining Dialpad Japan, Tanaka served as vice president of business development at Qtopics, Inc., the Internet's first global polling network. In this role, he was responsible for the cultivation of affiliate and client relationships, and the expansion of business to Japan and other Asian countries.Prior to Qtopics, he served as vice president of Asia-Pacific business development for Centric Engineering Systems, now part of Ansys, Inc.His responsibilities ranged from product development to customer support and international sales.
Dialpad Japan has licensed the company's core IP telephony technology, but will independently determine the business strategy and selection of services that are best suited to its local market. As with future entities around the world, Dialpad is an investor in the regional operations, and maintains a position on its board of directors.
In addition to Dialpad Japan, the company provides its technology and brand name to Korea-based Serome Technology, Inc. for its IP telephony unit.Unlike the new regional operations, Dialpad does not maintain an ownership position in Dialpad Korea.
