Mr. Tom Tanaka

Fellow PCC student Tom Tanaka was our special guest speaker on the 22nd of November.Mr. Tanaka is an experienced assistant editor for TGV and also a full- time employee for the Horseracing network.Mr. Tanaka primarily focused this meeting on the topic, " how students can get into the industry".

First of all, Mr. Tanaka started off with a three-minute reel; he especially made for this meeting.The students not only gained a lot of information about the Horseracing network and Mr. Tanaka's work as an editor, interviews with six other PCC students and alumni's showed the students, that PCC's Telecommunication Program provided each of them a good foundation for this industry.

Mr. Tanaka had a lot of useful advice for PCC students.He emphasized how PCC prepared him well for this industry.He suggested that students should take as many classes as possible and also pointed out that the Telecom 107 class (Video Operation) helped him a lot.He had the advantage of learning a lot of different areas.While attending PCC, Mr. Tanaka fell in love with editing.He likes the "power of this machine"; it's ability to "manipulate" a story.The most important thing Mr. Tanaka learned at PCC was to be punctual.

According to Mr. Tanaka, internships are the keys to get into this industry.However, it doesn't mean that an internship automatically leads to a job offer.Hard work, punctuality and passion, leads to a job offer.Mr. Tanaka also talked about his own experience in this industry.He was an intern for K-rock radio in Burbank; he attended AFI Film School and worked for BSN.Mr. Tanaka is also a certified Editor (Video Symphony).However, his second internship with TVG developed into a full- time position.
