Dick graduated from Omaha Technical High in 1955.Dick and his wife, Chizuko, have 2 children.He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, receiving a BA with majors in Political Science and Economics in 1959.Dick also attended the Elgin Watch College and the University of Tenri in Japan where he did Post Graduate Studies.

He was elected to the Omaha City Council in 1977.He was reelected in 1985, 1989 and 1993.In 1997 he was elected as Douglas County Register of Deeds.He was reelected to that position again in 2001.In 1998 he was elected to the Board of National Association of County Recorder, Election Officials and Clerks.He currently serves as Chair for Records Management Committee.

His family owns Takechi's Jewelry & Gifts, a 50-year Omaha business.

Dick and his wife reside in Omaha, Nebraska.
