Things are quite a bit different when a hospital loses power, Rebecca Taft, director of marketing at North Monroe Medical Center said.
"We have a disaster preparedness plan in place," Taft said. It's all-hands-on-deck, she said.
"We ask people going off shift to stay, and the others to come in early.Food services come in to feed everyone, free of charge, of course.I'm director of marketing, but if they need me to turn beds to help housekeeping, I'll be turning beds for housekeeping."
But the power outage there lasted only about 20 minutes, Taft said, and backup generators kicked in within 20 seconds.
"We have secondary backup coming from Shreveport just in case," she said, and everyone already has extra flashlights and batteries.
