  "She's someone certainly in the center of 20th Century folk song scholarship and performance," said Folk Life Center director Michael Taft.

The U.S. Congress has directed the Center to 'preserve and present' American folklife, and having the Center's two major collections of quilts in the Quilt Index meets this mandate."

  Michael Taft is the Head of the Archive at the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress.Taft has a PhD in Folklore from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1977), and a Masters in Library Science from the University of
  
  Alberta (1996).He has worked as a contract folklorist for a number of Canadian institutions.More recently, Taft has been an archivist at the University of Northern British Columbia, the Vermont Folklife Center, the University of North Carolina, and the Archives of Traditional Music at
  
  Indiana University.Taft has authored or co-authored sixteen books on folklore and oral history.
