   Since becoming a consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics in 1993, Barbara Swindall has steadily worked her business toward success. Because of her dedication and the help of MicroBusiness Development Corporation (MBD) she has twice qualified for - and been awarded - the famous Mary Kay car, and is now an Independent Sales Director!
   
   Barbara was one of the earliest clients of the MicrocreditWorks! peer lending program, receiving her first loan in 1998. She was elected group leader and later asked to serve as the first borrower representative on the Board of Directors. Barbara's group successfully repaid three loans and, even though the last was repaid in 2000, she stays involved with MBD for the networking, education and business support services provided. In early 2000 Barbara was able to hire a part-time assistant, and this year will be hiring two additional assistants. Barbara's goals for the future include having 100 consultants working with her business-a goal she is halfway toward completing! In addition to her business, Barbara manages to dedicate 25 hours a week to working with the elderly. When asked how she defines success, Barbara said, "Sustaining the commitment to my business has been my biggest accomplishment." top of page

   Ms. Swindall celebrates 5 years as an independent beauty and image consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Formally a flight attendant for 10 years , she shares a common dream with women of America which is to have independence and choices. She currently strives for the position of Sales Director , a sought after position in this time honored company.
