Manager Phil Swimley expects to meet most of the Thunderbirds in person on Tuesday, when the team will hold a 5:30 p.m. workout at Travis Credit Union Park.
"It's really just to get to know each other," Swimley said."We'll take a little batting practice, go through some drills.I'll get a feel for how they swing the bat."
Swimley knows that some of the players are still involved with finals, but hopes almost all of them will be on hand Wednesday for the first full workout.
The T'birds first day of practice can be fairly revealing for Swimley. He's only seen a few of the local recruits."I've seen the UC Davis guys ... and I've seen the UOP pitcher (Curtis Pazena) throw two innings," he said.
"But I really don't know what to expect. You have to trust their coaches."
Expectations aside, college ballplayers already should have a good grip on the game.So has Swimley had any major surprises that first day of practice?
"A couple of times, but I don't want to name any names," Swimley said.
