Drawing journalists to the booth also has helped some small exhibitors make a splash at big trade shows, said Erica Swerdlow, president of EBS Public Relations Inc. in Chicago, which represents many entrepreneurial information technology firms that exhibit at large trade shows, such as Comdex, that are heavily attended by media.
Some of Swerdlow's clients hire her firm to attend the show and make the press contacts, but smaller firms can opt to have an in-house marketing manager stay at the booth and talk with the media, she added.
Bakertowne employed the tactic at the International Housewares Show last year.At a Chicago hotel where many attendees stayed, Bakertowne featured its Easy-Fit Waist Stretcher product on an ad on the hotel cable station.
