"It went over well," said Dave Swenson of the Valley City Police Department. "Last year we had eight kids, this year we had 12, and we're hoping that it will be bigger and better next year."
Agencies participating in this year's Shop with a Cop were the Valley City Police Department, Barnes County Sheriff's Department, N.D. Game and Fish Department, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and N.D. Parole and Probation.
Chief of Police Dean Ross said the Shop with a Cop program is one of the best events that the Valley City Police Department has ever been involved with since he joined the department. He credits the other law enforcement agencies involved and feels that it gives officers a chance to join hand in hand and establish a rapport with the community's youth.
