While this is beneficial to her, the disparity in the current internship credit set-up is a problem, according to Fredrick Sweitzer, co-author of the book, "The Successful Internship," and director of Human Services at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

There is a huge variation in the demand and time that an intern puts in and the credit he earns, said Sweitzer.

"There is no universal ratio in time put into an internship and credit hours received," he said."[A universal ratio] would certainly help to level the playing field."

Sweitzer said by not having a national standard for internships, students who have more hard-working or time-consuming internships are hurt.

The ratio of time and type of internship worked compared with hours received vary with colleges and professions, he said.

"We haven't figured out how to make experiential education equitable in terms of credits granted to students as compared to more traditional forms of education," Sweitzer said.
