Shrewsbury's eight water sources - seven wells and a stream - could use the rain, said Brian Sweitzer, superintendent of public works at Shrewsbury Municipal Water Co.
The company, which serves more than 4,000 customers in the borough, is in a similar predicament as York Water. Though consumption during July 2002 dropped 3 percent from the previous year, it's not enough, Sweitzer said.
The municipality might have to begin rationing as soon as next week, but it's too soon to say, he said.
Other municipalities, such as Red Lion and Spring Grove, appear to be holding steady. -

Brian Sweitzer, superintendent of public works for Shrewsbury Borough, told his council this month that the pump station and the sewer lines can handle the additional capacity. Sweitzer said the sewer flows in that area increase when it rains, indicating the possibility that sump pumps and downspouts are connected to the sewer.
