AVON LAKE -- Shirley M. Sweeney (nee Morrison), 84, of Avon Lake, formerly of Amherst, died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Avon, following complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born Aug. 23. 1921, in Detroit, Mich. She lived in Amherst for 38 years and moved to Avon Lake in 1987.
She graduated from Mary Grove College, Detroit, Mich., with a degree in interior design, and had taught eighth grade for five years at St. Joseph School, Amherst, and St. Peter School, Lorain.
Mrs. Sweeney volunteered at the Avon Lake Public Library, with Meals-on-Wheels in Sheffield Lake and at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake, and its Young Spirits Group and Ladies Guild and enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and reading.
