   Hynes, Martin Fergus Sweeney, PhD, has extensive experience as a quality assurance manager and auditor in Europe, the US, Asia, Australia, and South Africa, covering a wide range of therapeutic areas in Phases I through IV of clinical research including cardiovascular, psychiatry, transplant, oncology, infectious diseases, pulmonary function, and allergy. He serves on the core committee of the DIA GCP & QA Special Interest Area Community, and as instructor for the DIA Practical GCP Compliance Auditing of Trials & Systems training course.

   Dr. Sweeney qualified in Physiology at Trinity College, Dublin. He subsequently earned his Doctorat de Troisième Cycle in Cancer Biology from the University of Paris, and his PhD in Pharmacology at University College, Dublin.

   Dr. Sweeney currently serves as Principal Administrator, Technical Coordination Unit, Inspections Products, for the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) in the UK, responsible for coordinating Good Clinical Practices and related inspections. Prior to EMEA, he founded Covance Clinical Development's (then GH Besselaar) European Quality Assurance group, serving as Director, Quality Assurance, Europe and Asia / Pacific. He previously held various functions in Phase I, laboratory, Phase III monitoring, and quality assurance, at the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Sweeney is a trained ISO 9001 lead assessor and is experienced with preparing forms for ISO 9001 certification and for EN45001 laboratory accreditation. He has also served as presenter at numerous conferences and provided training on many aspects of GCP, auditing, inspections and quality management.
