Users can dial their 1-800 access number from an office or home number , or from a payphone , or a mobile phone , Lee Suravlas , a spokesperson for the Internet telephony carrier said.Depending on how businesses want service configured , they can have a single toll-free number for their entire company , or one for each user.

Suravlas said that , although she has her own Sprint PCS phone , which supports voice dialing , the function is only available when using a Sprint mobile.

When I use a regular phone line , it's not available.With the NetPhone PVD facility , it's available from almost anywhere , she said.

The PVD function gives the carrier's business users access to up to 1 , 000 contacts and/or 3 , 000 phone numbers , with the directory stored on the Net2Phone servers.

The technology was developed for Net2Phone by HeyAnita , a software house that the carrier has commissioned for various enhanced services projects.

Suravlas said that the PVD facility was originally aimed at the carrier's mobile phone users , but , with rates of 3.9 cents a minute for long-distance calls with no subscription , most business users are likely to sign up for the service and use it from almost any line.

Initially the feature only be available to Net2Phone's phone-to-phone Net telephony users , but the carrier plans to offer the PVD facility over broadband Internet connections later this year.Users will be able to pick up a broadband-enabled phone and gain access to an intelligent IP dial tone with services such as PVD , without having to dial a special number.

Plans call for the PVD service to be offered to business customers nationally this summer , after the current beta tests , by which stage users will be able to upload their address books from Microsoft Exchange or Palm Computing databases.

"We will be the first company to implement and offer such integrated services, even though companies like Phonefree.com and Dialpad.com are also planning to deliver similiar enhanced services," said Lee Suravlas, a spokesperson at Net2phone.
