Dr.Nitish Surathu is currently an Associate Professor of Periodontics in Chennai, India.He graduated with a Master's degree in Periodontics in 1994 and has been in clinical practice since 1995.He subsequently pursued continuing education in implantology and cosmetic dentistry and maintains a practice that has an exclusive emphasis in these areas.He has since also been certified as having satisfactorily completed the National Dental Board examinations in the USA, administered by the Joint Commission on National Board Examinations of the American Dental Association.
Dr Surathu has lectured nationally and internationally on several platforms, having made presentations in several countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.He has presented at Europerio 5 in Spain, Europe's largest periodontal meeting to date, Biennial conferences of the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology in China, Malaysia and the Philippines and the World Congress of Oral Implantology 6 in the USA.In 2006, he was invited to deliver the Oration Lecture at the Sri Lanka Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry Annual Meeting in Colombo.Dr Surathu has further lectured in Thailand and Singapore at National Dental Association meetings in these countries.He is also an avid author and has several national and international publications to his credit in peer reviewed journals, dental periodicals and internet based sites.
An Executive Council member and India representative of the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, he is also the Joint Secretary of the Indian Society of Periodontology and a member of the Executive Council of the Indian Academy of Osseointegration, India's largest implant dentistry organisation.He is also actively involved with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) and was the first dental practitioner in India to complete the MaxiCourse® in India and be credentialled as an Associate Fellow of the AAID.An accomplished implantologist, he is also a Fellow and Diplomate of the ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists) and was the first implantologist in South India to be thus credentialled.
His active interest in continuing dental education has seen him lecture on several courses and he is reputed for his teaching style that has seen several hundred dentists incorporate advanced dentistry into their practice, particularly with reference to implantology, periodontics and aesthetic dentistry.He is involved with several continuing education providers and travels widely, teaching various professional groups in intensive courses.With more than a thousand implants in clinical experience behind him, his implantology courses have seen active attendance not only in India, but also in Nepal, Sri Lanka and the UAE and he is to shortly lead a course in Pakistan as well.
Dr Surathu is happily married to his dentist wife Sujatha and they make their home in Chennai, India, where they have two sons, Nishant aged 14 and Neeraj aged 12.
