"Parents really appreciate the convenience of the Progress West location," says Jean Stroud, RN, BSN, manager, SLCH pediatric off-site services. "They appreciate knowing that their children are receiving care from St. Louis Children's Hospital physicians and Progress West pediatric nurses 24/7."

Most Progress West pediatric patients are treated for accidental injuries, asthma, dehydration and respiratory illness. Acutely ill patients or those needing more intensive services are transferred to SLCH.

"Knowing that the resources of Children's Hospital are available for their family is another source of comfort," says Stroud.

"We wanted to wait to start providing inpatient pediatric care until we knew we had a top level pediatric staff to care for the child and their parents," says Jean Stroud, RN, BSN, manager, SLCH pediatric off-site services.

"For months the community has been overwhelmingly pleased with the level of pediatric care available in the emergency room at Progress West; now they will be able to experience it should their child need inpatient care," says Stroud.

"An important aspect of the expanded unit is the inpatient beds, which allow physicians to admit children overnight for observation or extended lengths of stay," says Jean Stroud, RN, BSN, St. Louis Children's Hospital manager of pediatric off-site services.

"In cases where more urgent care is needed, we can quickly transport patients to St. Louis Children's Hospital," says Stroud.
