The Stonewall Buoy - formally, Buoy 46050 owned by the National Data Buoy Center, was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Fir, in Clayquot Sound, near Vancouver Island, according to Angela Strong, a spokeswoman for the National Data Buoy Center in Mississippi.

The replacement buoy and new mooring, Strong said, will be prepared and staged for redeployment.

No water was found inside the 46050 buoy, Strong said.Some hydrogen build-up arises when hydrogen is produced as a "normal by-product of the charging process for lead acid batters."But she stated, "The danger increases if the vents are restricted, and that sometimes occurs if the battery compartment becomes flooded with seawater."
