   Dr. Mark Strauss, principal at Virginia Shuman Young Elementary in Fort Lauderdale, has been named one of three elementary school finalists for the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership.Strauss was named Broward County Public Schools Principal of the Year at the 2007 ACCLAIM Awards.

   As early as third grade, Mark Strauss remembers playing make-believe school, where he acted as the teacher and siblings played the students.As he got a little older, he pretended to be a principal.
   
   Strauss, who went on to become a real principal at Fort Lauderdale's Virginia Shuman Young Elementary, was named Broward County's principal of the year Thursday night.

   "We make sure we're doing what's right for the children and not just what's right for a test," said Strauss, of Wilton Manors.
