"There's a lot of emotional stress involved in changing lanes," says Art Strauss."If you're charged with an accident, there's a good chance that more than just your career will be killed."

Strauss cites statistics by the DOT, which state injuries occur in 98 percent of lane change accidents.

"Changing lanes without right-side forward vision is dangerous no matter how cautious a driver is," he says.

The American Trucking Associations Safety Council's former chairman, Bill Vendetta, vice president of Barrieau Moving and Storage, says he and others in the business quickly realized the mirror could bring the blindspot view into the cab, making driving safer.

"Looking through an outside mirror with raindrops on it is like looking through a shower curtain," he says."Since C-MOR is mounted inside the cab, it always provides a clear view."

Vendetta's company purchased 35 units of the mirror the first day of prototype tests.

KAM's heated and motorized four-way mirror is a first-fit option for buyers of Freightliner FLD and Business Class Trucks. The mirror increases the field of view, reduces vibration and is aerodynamically styled, according to the manufacturer.
