Mr. Strange will lead all of the student disc jockeys.
No, that's not another radio name. That's their instructor, Bennett Strange, who heads the communications department at LC.
He said student on air personalities will enjoy the same First-amendment freedoms offered by any FCC radio station.
...
Strange founded the first student-run LC radio station in 1959.That station pumped popular music like Elvis Presley and Paul Anka only as far as the dorms for about nine months, he recalled.
Since then, Strange has owned radio stations and sponsored student radio efforts, including the Christian music microwat station that sent a weak signal to some LC dorms in the late 1990s - that was if the radio was placed near the window and the listeners held their just mouths right.
After that station folded, Strange worked with the Federal Communications Commission to get LC a commercial-free, mid-wattage station.
He has secured enough alumni donations to stack the studio with state-of-the-art communications equipment and computers that will give the students real on-the-job experience. He's even secured a computerized automation system that can play music when the DJs are on Spring Break.
