Strand was active in United Way in the City of Lapeer, where he worked before moving to Battle Creek.He has served on the board of the Michigan Municipal League and is Past President of the Michigan Local Government Management Association.Locally, Strand serves on many boards, including the Battle Creek Downtown Development Authority, Battle Creek Unlimited, Cereal City Development Corporation, Dickman Road Business Improvement District and Neighborhoods, Inc.
