    Arnold Albert Strache, 89, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his home in Oak Ridge.

    He was born in 1912 and grew up on a farm in Watertown, Wis. In 1932, Mr. Strache graduated from Concordia Teachers College at River Forest, Ill. Upon graduation, he moved to Paducah, Ky., and taught school for five years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Paducah.

    He met his wife, Adalaide Steinhauer, who survives him, while living in Paducah.They were married in 1936.

    In 1952, Mr. Strache joined Union Carbide as a timekeeper and later department head.In 1962, he transferred to Oak Ridge as a computer programmer.He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division in 1975 and became the lay assistant to the pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Strache is survived by three children, Fredrick Strache of Malibu, Calif., Irma Pinkerton of Hixson, and Jennie Hiers of Jacksonville, Fla.

    OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--Services for Arnold Albert Strache, 89, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Paducah, will be at 11 a.m. EST Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge.The Rev. James P. Evers will officiate.

    Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah.

    Mr. Strache died Tuesday at his home in Oak Ridge.

    A native of Watertown, Wis., Mr. Strache graduated from Concordia Teachers College at River Forest, Ill., in 1932.He then moved to Paducah and taught Sunday school for five years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Paducah.

    In 1952, he joined Union Carbide as a timekeeper and later became department head.In 1962, he transferred to Oak Ridge as a computer programmer and retired from Union Carbide in 1975 and became the lay assistant to the pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge.

    He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Adalaide Steinhauer Strache; one son, Fredrick Strache of Malibu, Calif.; two daughters, Irma Pinkerton of Hixson, Tenn., and Jennie Hiers of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    Weatherford Mortuary of Oak Ridge and Roth Funeral Chapel of Paducah are in charge of arrangements.
