Tiffany Stoddard

The University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) and WAAM Talk Radio 1600 are excited to introduce the newest Scholastic Citizen of the Month, Tiffany Stoddard, a senior at Milan High School.The High School Scholastic Citizen of the Month program is designed to recognize those high school students who achieve academic success, school spirit, and a commitment to community service.

Tiffany is a young person with many accomplishments.She is outstanding academically, holding a 3.61 grade point average.She was on the Honor Roll all four years of high school and was inducted into the National Honor Society in the 11th grade.A MEAP Merit Award winner, Tiffany attended classes at Washtenaw Community College during the summer.

Along with her studies, Tiffany contributes towards the success of many school activities.Her Milan High School nominator wrote that Tiffany shows the qualities of a leader.For example, she has organized activities to benefit the Michigan Youth Leadership Conference and is a valued mentor in the Freshmen Mentoring Program.She is an exemplary student in the new leadership class at school, her teacher wrote.She continued:

"She has an upstanding character and leads by example.She has excellent problem solving skills and not only completes the task at hand, but is creative in coming up with ideas to take care of possible problems or to enrich the experiences of others."

Tiffany is interested in helping in the community.She was selected to be a member of Washtenaw Area Teens for Tomorrow and will work on a summit to explore community needs.Our Outstanding Citizen is a school and church choir singer and a substitute Sunday School teacher.In the summer of 2004, she accompanied her church's youth group to Brazil to help build a church and put on programs for the children.In 2006, she traveled to Missouri to assist a church project.In athletics, Tiffany is an award-winning member of Milan High School's varsity track team and became a 500 Mile Club member in 2003.

When asked who her role model is, Tiffany explained she has many.However, there are a couple of women in her church who she has looked up to since she was a little girl and who encourage her.Our Scholastic Citizen of the Month discussed two important lessons she lives by.

"I have always loved working with kids and I think being a teacher is the most rewarding job possible," Tiffany said.
