"The majority of the streets at least need some sort of seal coat," says St. Anthony City Clerk Taci Stoddard.

Almost every road in St. Anthony needs to be fixed and the city wants it done the right way.

For the past two years, engineering firms have examined every street and come up with a comprehensive plan on what needs to be done to get the roads up to par.

"The remaining service life on the majority of our streets are eight to ten years or less," says Stoddard.

Everything from crack and chip sealing to scrub coating to completely removing and replacing streets - the list of repairs is long and the city wants its own people to decide how to do it.

"The council wants to visit with people that come in about that and what they think would be the best solution," Stoddard says.

St. Anthony is looking at three different options to fix the streets. One would cost 15.8 million dollars, another 10.7 million dollars, and the final four million dollars.

The more expensive plans provide the most repairs but city workers say the four million dollar plan may be adequate enough.

"The city engineer feels with that option that the city streets could last pretty well," says Stoddard.

    Stoddard responded, "Yes.

"Their not going to have it the next day," St. Anthony City Clerk Taci Stoddard says. That may cause some stress for builders, but she says they should plan on the wait.
    ...
Stoddard says that she thinks it will take a while for residents to get used to the changes. She also says that she thinks their will be some who will skirt around the permit - especially indoor remodeling jobs.

"We're not going to catch everything," she says."Yes, it's going to cost more, but it will make for better structures, which means better safety."

The change in the zoning permit fees will help alleviate the building expenses however.

"The county fees are a huge increase. For what we're doing (in comparison) we can't see doubling the zoning fees," Stoddard says.

City Clerk Taci Stoddard says that there has always been the concern about where these groups would go."We're removing a place for people to meet."

She says some of the smaller groups, including the Boy Scouts, may chose to move to the Senior Citizen's room at the new City Building.

Larger groups which have held annual banquets in the building will still be able to host their events in the old building this year. But next year they will have to search for a new venue.

Stoddard says she is certain all of the groups are actively thinking about the future needs of their organizations.

The Fremont District Library is also located in the old building, but as part of the sale agreement Ohs will allow the library to stay in place until it is able to move.

Plans are in the works to renovate part of the new City Building to accommodate the library facility.Beck hopes to use Work Camp labor for the project, but no arrangements have been made yet.

Stoddard says at the longest the project will take three to four months."If things fall into place, they could be in here in thirty days," she says.
