Dr.Fred Stielow was appointed Dean of Libraries & Educational Materials at the American Military University in July of 2005.
His education includes overseas collegiate studies while an enlisted man during the Vietnam Era, when he also managed an Army data processing section.
Dr.Stielow went on to earn a dual doctorate in History and American Studies from Indiana University and a M.L.S. from the University of Rhode Island.
In addition to professonial appointments at the University of Maryland and Catholic University, Dr. Stielow served as the director of the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University and the Reuther Labor Library at Wayne State University.
He has written or edited over 100 scholarly articles and 10 books, including Creating Virtual Libraries, Building Digital Archives, and the award-winning Management of Oral History Sound Archives.
Dr. Stielow also worked on the first DOS-based hypertext programs, contributed to over 100 Web sites, chaired ALA's Web Advisory Committee, and consulted on numerous automation initiatives.
His awards include a Fulbright Scholarship in Italy, the Jamison Fellowship of the Library of Congress, and a Cybrarian of the Year Award from MCI for work while director of the Mid-Hudson Public Library System.
