Michael D. Klein , M.D. , Wayne State University professor or surgery and surgeon-in-chief at Children's Hospital of Michigan , is pleased to announce the appointment of James Stenger , DDS , as chief of developmental dentistry & orthodontics at Children's Hospital.

Stenger replaces Dr. James Delaney , who after many years of service at Children's Hospital of Michigan has decided to step down as the chief of the department.

Stenger is a graduate of The University of Detroit School of Dentistry.After service as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy , he completed the residency program in pediatric dentistry at USC / Children's Hospital of Los Angeles followed by a decade of private pedodontic practice in central California.
He continued his training by completing the orthodontic residency program at the University of the Pacific / Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics.
Stenger has been a full-time faculty member at Marquette University School of Dentistry and Medical College of Wisconsin.He directed the orthodontic clinic for special needs patients in the department of oral maxillofacial surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.Stenger continued to pursue this interest during a four-year period in the Middle East , serving a consultant to the National Tertiary Hospital in Doha , Qatar.
He comes to Children's Hospital of Michigan with the desire to expand the scope of teaching and patient service by utilizing his interest in craniofacial biology and the macrophysiology pertaining to the primary functions of the head and neck , to extend the core discipline of pediatric dentistry to include orthodontics for both craniofacial patients as well as children with more common issues of dental development , in a sensitive , caring environment.
Stenger has assumed his new responsibilities effective February 1 , 2001.
