Adaptec to slash 325 jobs - [Cached Version]

In Longmont, where Adaptec develops software and hardware and offers technical support, 36 of 78 workers will lose their jobs, said Max Steinhardt, vice president and general manager for Adaptec's storage networking group.

The percentage of cuts was higher in Longmont because an entire software development team was affected, he said.

"It's a hard thing for the company and for the people who are impacted," Steinhardt said."A lot of companies out there are experiencing downturns and, in some cases, big, unexpected ones."

Adaptec said the restructuring, once fully implemented, is expected to produce annual savings of about $35 million.

It is the company's second round of layoffs this year.In March, Adaptec announced plans to reduce its work force by 450 employees, and it booked a fiscal fourth-quarter charge of $9.9 million for those layoffs.

Adaptec reported $42.6 million of earnings on $582 million of revenue for the last 12 months.
